Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Meet the Paterson Team Behind Level Two Chimney Paterson
We’re a Paterson crew, and most of us have been working chimneys in Passaic County long enough to know which rooflines ice up first and which 1920s flues were laid with lime mortar that’s now turning to sand. What holds us together is the Haven Standard: written price before we touch anything, a camera record on every job, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise printed on the paperwork. No shortcuts, no handshake deals. The team below is who shows up at your door in Paterson, uniformed, background-checked, and ready to tell you what’s actually going on with your flue.
Our People
Rafael M. - Lead Technician
Rafael has been sweeping and repairing chimneys in northern New Jersey for 14 years, the last six with Level Two Chimney serving Paterson, Clifton, Wayne, and the surrounding towns. He holds a CSIA certification and runs most of the Level 2 camera inspections we do in the area. His specialty is diagnosing what he calls “quiet failures”: hairline cracks in clay flue tiles, rusted dampers that look fine from the hearth, and smoke chamber corbelling that was never right from the day it was built. Rafael is the one who trains our apprentices on camera work, and he still insists on reading the manual for every new piece of inspection equipment, even though the other techs give him a hard time about it.
Maria T. - Senior Installer
Maria has spent 11 years in chimney and masonry work, joining Level Two Chimney five years ago after running her own small repair crew in Essex County. She handles most of the liner installations and rebuild work in Paterson, from stainless steel flue liners to full crown replacements and spalling brick repair. Maria is the person who will tell you honestly whether a chimney needs a rebuild or whether repointing and a new cap buys you another decade. She’s known for cutting flashing by hand instead of relying on pre-formed pieces, because that’s what actually holds up to snow and wind on the east side of the Watchungs. On her days off, she’s usually fixing something at her sister’s house.
Darnell W. - Service Coordinator
Darnell is the voice on the phone when you call (862) 356-5229, and he’s the reason our Paterson schedule runs without mystery. He’s been with Level Two Chimney for seven years. Before that, he worked dispatch for a heating and cooling company, so he understands how to sequence jobs around weather, traffic, and the fact that nobody wants to wait around a four-hour window. Darnell assigns the named technician to every job, sends the text when the crew is on the way, and makes sure the written scope and price are in your hands before anyone climbs a ladder. His thing is follow-through: if he says he’ll call back at 3 p.m., the phone rings at 3 p.m.
Claire S. - Apprentice Technician
Claire joined the Paterson crew two years ago as our first apprentice, working under Rafael on inspections and under Maria on repair days. She’s in the middle of earning her CSIA certification and already handles a good share of the chimney sweeps in Paterson on her own, with a senior tech reviewing her camera scans. Claire came from a general contracting background and has a habit of finding problems other people miss because she checks the margins of the work: the crawlspace air flow, the attic smoke path, the basement cleanout door that someone painted shut. She’s also the most likely person on the crew to suggest that your chimney is actually fine, which is something we value.
One Standard, Every Job

Level Two Chimney is part of a network of ten home-service brands, but the Paterson crew runs on the same playbook every other location uses: the Haven Standard. Clause 1 means a written price, written scope, and written warranty before work starts, always, on every job. Clause 4 means a documented photo record from every visit, whether we’re sweeping a fireplace in Lakeview, relining a flue in South Paterson, or replacing a crown in Totowa. We source materials from DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield through the network’s buying program, which keeps pricing steady across all ten brands. And every single job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right. That’s not a slogan. It’s stamped on the paperwork.
